This stamp is the fifth issue in the American Design Series, which was introduced by the United States Postal Service to replace the Great Americans series. The design features a close-up of a traditional Navajo "squash blossom" necklace made of silver and polished turquoise, dating from the 1940s or 1950s. The series focuses on intricate examples of American craftsmanship and cultural heritage.

This is a genuine specimen of the 2004 original issue, as identified by the "2004" date printed in the bottom left corner. Unlike subsequent reprints from 2006 or 2007, this specific version (Scott #3750) does not contain hidden USPS microprinting. This stamp was printed by Avery Dennison via photogravure and remains a common but quintessential example of modern American definitive postage. Given its pristine condition and excellent centering, it represents a high-quality collector's copy.
