$450.00

This stamp is part of the Liberty Issue (1954–1968), a definitive series designed to replace the 1938 Presidential Issue. The series aimed to provide a more modern, simplified appearance for U.S. postage. The 2-cent denomination features a portrait of the 3rd U.S. President, Thomas Jefferson, and was primarily used for the postcard rate during its period of circulation.

This is a genuine specimen of the 1954 Liberty Series. Scott #1033 is an incredibly common issue, with total printing quantities reaching into the billions. Due to the standard machine cancellation and the leftward centering, this specific copy holds nominal collector value, representing a standard example of mid-20th-century postal history.

Condition Analysis:

  • Status: Used. The stamp bears a black ink machine cancellation consisting of horizontal lines, which is typical for mail processed through high-speed sorting equipment.

  • Centering: Fine (F). The design is noticeably shifted to the left, resulting in a much wider margin on the right side. While the perforations do not cut into the frame, the imbalance is clear.

  • Reverse Side: The gum is absent as it is a used copy. There is a visible horizontal paper bend or light crease across the middle, likely from being soaked off an envelope. No significant thins are present.

  • Perforations: Generally intact; however, there is some minor "shagginess" and fibrous wear on the top and bottom edges, which is characteristic of stamps separated from sheets in a post office environment.
